Vintage Christmas Sparkles

I know that we haven't even hit October yet, but I know that many Christmas Crafters and Jewelry Designers are already preparing for the Holiday Season, at least I know that I am.

So, for the Jewelry Designer in all of us I've started adding some lovely Vintage Holiday Sparkle supplies in my shop, Alyssabeths Vintage!

 Bright cherry red vintage glass cabochons accented with crystal clear faceted glass rhinestones, perfect for your holiday jewelry and mixed media art creations.

Elegant, vintage lucite faceted oval emerald green stones mounted in 2 ring brass channel settings (connector settings). These lovely findings measure 19mm long including loops/rings x 8mm wide, and have a lovely aged patina to the brass.

Stunning, 11mm siam red vintage glass faceted Czech glass stones, jewels or rhinetones, just in time for your holiday jewelry creations. These 48ss stones have pointed, unfoiled backs and will be hand set in either 1 ring drop or 2 ring connector settings.

Vintage Winter White Gold Starburst Snowflake embossed vintage lucite round 10mm cabochons! Perfect for your holiday and winter jewelry, mixed media or scrapbook creations! Perfectly flat backs, 10mm cabs.

Framed Paper Rose Valentine

Instead of a regular ol' Valentine card, I decided to do something a little different for my best girlfriend - who by the way is super girly, and create a framed rose Valentine with vintage chic pink rose gift bag.

While I was out shopping the other day I popped into Michaels and found they have started putting out some really girly stuff for spring in their dollar section.  I picked out a shabby chic little chippy white frame, a packet of pink paper roses and a pack of tiny floral note cards.

First step in this easy little craft is to cut a piece of one of the note card to fit into your frame, now glue your little paper roses into a heart shape onto the paper you've cut out.  (Each little rose has a sticky backing, but they aren't sticky enough to stay so I glued mine with Elmer's.) Now insert into your frame.

I decided to create a little muslin bag for my little framed rose Valentine.  As usual I found the perfect vintage pink rose Valentine image over at Graphics Fairy and added the word Valentine and printed out on a iron on transfer paper.  Because there is wording on the image you will need to print this out as a mirror image, so if your photo or graphics program is unable to flip the image you can do this in a couple of easy steps at Picnik.

Glitter Valentine Heart Treat Boxes

Ok girls, I found the cutest little plastic heart trinket boxes at the Dollar Tree last week and what a bargain, 12 for $1.00.  I'm not a big fan if purple so I decided to use only the red and pink heart boxes in the package.  I thought these would make adorable little treat boxes for my girl friends, once I've adorned with glitter and little cabbage roses!

You will need:

Heart Boxes

Modge Podge

Glitter

Crepe Paper

Glue

I started off by painting the little lids with Mode Podge, sprinkle with your glitter of choice, I chose pink and red.  Once these are nice and dry I created little crepe paper roses.  Cut your crepe paper into strips.  Start the little roses by taking one end and rolling into a little rosebud type center, from there start creating the petals by twisting and turning the rest of your strip around the center until you have your little cabbage rose, use the tail end of your paper strip to tuck under the rose gluing down so that the rose stays together. You might want to dap a glue into the rose as your go along.  I sprinkled the roses and little coffee colored leaves with very fine clear glitter.

And now your have great little Valentine treat boxes ready to fill will goodies!

Valentines Day Felt Rose Heart Wreath

Growing-up Valentines Day has always been one of my favorite holidays, I think because my Father loved it so.  He always made such a big deal over all of us, candy and roses for my sister and I, candy and fishing gear for my brother, and of course something romantic for my mother.

It seems like this past year I've been way behind in holiday decor and crafts, but this time I'm actually ahead of the game and have already created 3 Valentines Day craft tutorials!

During yet another scouting trip to the Dollar Tree I found this fun and festive red foil fringe heart wreath!  For only a dollar it's fairly large at 14" across at it's widest and pretty well made.  I also purchased a bouquet of white roses because it included two white glitter puffy hearts, I'll a use for the roses in another tutorial I'm sure.

I decided to adorn this fun wreath with those easy felt roses!  I bought several colors of felt on sale at Hobby Lobby, and in the bridal isle I found pearl stamens for the centers.

So basically the supplies you need are:

Wreath

Felt
Stamens
Glue - I used E-6000

Puffy heart

Ribbon

Cut out felt circles and then cut those into a spiral.  Dab a little bit of the glue onto the stamen and start wrapping your felt around creating your rose.  Create several sizes.

Once all your roses are done start by gluing down your puffy glittered heart and then start gluing down your roses.  See super easy!

After your wreath is all dry and the roses are good an secure tie a lovely ribbon to the top and there you have your Valentines Day Heart Wreath!

Shabby Chic Button Jars

Now that I have my own craft space (also guest bedroom) I need to start getting a little more organized!  I have tons and tons of vintage and antique buttons and have been keeping them in baggies, really not very attractive.  I love old glass jars and ball jars, but those can be pretty expensive and I need a bunch.  So I went to my old stand by Dollar Tree and found these really cool retro sugar shakers! 

Of course I couldn't just leave them plain.  I wanted to spray paint the lids but the weather won't permit this for a while so I decided to decoupage the lids with black & while toile scrapbook paper that I already had on hand.

Next I thought I would decorate the glass jar portion and found these vintage button tags on the Graphics Fairy.  Copied and printed out on card stock and adorned with a vintage button.  Then wrapped some vintage lace around the jars and attached the button tags with kitcen twine.  Again a super... easy and inexpensive craft project.

Creating Christmas Chic JOY to the World Book Page Christmas Wreath Dollar Tree Crafts

Hello friends, I'm up bright and early this morning and couldn't wait to start of our week long Creating Christmas event with the Creative Girl!!

This week I'm going with a very Shabby Chic theme, of course using very frugal supplies, some from the Dollar Tree, a lot I already had and then some from Thrift Stores.  My work room, me and the dogs are covered in silver and snow white glitter!

I thought the wreath turned out to be very Shabby Chic and very elegant.  The best part is that it is super duper easy to create and a very inexpensive holiday craft.

Supplies were purchased at the Dollar Tree and items on hand:


Styrofoam disc - $1.00 for 2

Book Pages - entire book $1.00

Ribbon - $1.00

Glitter Wreath Ornaments - $1.00
Already had on Hand:
Crepe paper
Glitter

Glue

Glue Gun

Free Vintage Graphics
Cardstock

Tape

To start your project cut out the book pages with an exacto for a clean edge, roll into cone shapes and tape.  For the outer layer I left the edges plain, but for the inner layer I added a fancy edge with scrapbook scissors.  One you have enough cones just start gluing onto the Styrofoam disc.  I used my glue gun for this.  Decorate the edges with glitter for extra sparkle!

While I let the wreath base dry I popped over to the Graphics Fairy, my go to place for vintage graphics and found this stunning JOY to the World graphic for my center medallion.  Save the graphic to your computer, I changed the graphics to a round shape and then printed on white card stock, cut this out and glued to the back of the gold and silver glitter wreath ornament.  Once this was good a dry and took a roll of vintage cream crepe paper and created a ruffle using tape to adhere the crepe paper.

Finally you have your ruffled medallion done flip over and glue to the center of the wreath.  For hanging just glue a ribbon to the back! 

And there you have a very elegant and frugal Christmas Book Page Wreath, which I think cost me around $5.00 to create.

Christmas Cloche - Dollar Store Crafting

Several weeks ago I ran into the Dollar Tree and they were just putting out their Christmas Decorations which put me in the Holiday creative and shopping spirit!In fact I was in such a good mood about Christmas that I'm having a 20% off sale in my Etsy Shop Alyssabeths sale ends Saturday morning Nov. 19.

I was surprised how cute and glittery the ornaments and decorations were and grabbed up several and began wandering around the store where I found one round vase and I knew instantly that I needed to create a Christmas Cloche (or as my husband calls it the snow glove without snow).

Supplies:
Candle Stick - $1.00
Round Glass Vase $1.00
Styrofoam Circle $1.00
Glass House Ornament - $1.00
Little Snowman - $1.00
Little Trees - $1.00
Christmas Scrapbook paper
Cotton Balls
White Snow Glitter
White Spray Paint
Glue - heavy duty

I spray painted the candlestick white.  While the candle stick dried I covered the Styrofoam disk with coordinating Christmas scrapbook paper and Mod Podge for extra durability and to water proof the paper a little.  Once the candle stick was dry, several days later I attached the paper covered disk and then set about arranging my little snow scene and yep the snow was created with cotton balls and glitter!  I did add more glitter to the house ornament as well as decroating the windows with green & red puff paint. When the little snow scene was dry I glued the inverted round vase which I then accented with a large red bead (which was left over from another Christmas Craft that I will list next week).

Revamped Pumpkin Candle Hostess Gift - Dolloar Store Crafting

This DIY project was so easy and frugal (cheap) that I'm almost embarrassed to share it.

I'm always in the hunt for hostess gifts and found some wonderful pumpkin scented jar candles at the Dollar Tree for of course only a $1.00.  Unfortunately they were plain with a simple silver colored lid.

I simply couldn't leave them plain!  So I removed the lid spray painted cream & once dry I antiqued with a dark brown paint that I already had and clear coated for protection.  For an extra touch I tied oak leaves left over from my Fall Felt Rose & Just Wreath using some of the jute string along with an adorable Pumpkin Tag.  The Pumpkin Tag I created using a vintage pumpkin image set on top of an ornate orange frame I downloaded from The Graphics Fairy printed on card stock and cut using a tag punch. This little project really only cost me $1.00 for the candle since I already had all the other items on hand.

By the way did you know if you have Microsoft Word 2010 that you can easily remove the background from an image?  You can and it works amazingly well!
